Wax vs Glass Coating — What's the Difference, and Which Suits Your Car?

Many people confuse waxing with glass coating, since both produce a similarly glossy result — but they're actually very different in mechanism and durability.
Wax
- Made from natural or synthetic materials that sit as a thin layer on the paint surface.
- Short durability, typically lasting a few weeks to a few months.
- Needs to be reapplied often to maintain shine.
- Cheaper, suited for short-term care.
Glass Coating
- Uses Silica/quartz that chemically reacts with the paint surface, forming a more permanent, hardened coating layer.
- Much longer durability (measured in years, not months).
- Better resistance to scratches, water spots, and UV radiation.
- Higher price, but more cost-effective long-term since it doesn't need frequent reapplication.
Summary: If you want temporary shine on a limited budget, wax fits the bill. If you want long-term paint protection and less frequent maintenance, glass coating is the more cost-effective choice.
